In a family, the limit tends to go wrong in two ways: it's set with the highest earner in mind, or it's so low the adults struggle to find anything. Best is one limit every adult can afford, and gifts chosen for each person.
Ideas by relative
For aunts and uncles: the good version of something they use
Many older relatives buy the cheapest version of things they use every day: reading glasses, slippers, an umbrella. Give them the good version. You don't need to spend more; just don't pick the cheapest.
For teenagers: money or a gift card
Many teenagers would rather get money or a gift card than an object chosen by an adult. If you give one, present it well: inside a book, in a box or with a note.
For grandparents: an afternoon together
Grandparents often have everything, and what they value most is company. Give them an afternoon: a printed voucher to go through the photo album together, a meal at their favorite restaurant or an outing they enjoy.
For the Christmas cook
Whoever cooks for the whole family every December is usually missing something: a good knife, a bigger tray, an apron. Give them that.
Before the draw
Post the limit in the family chat before the draw. If there are kids, run a separate draw for them with a lower limit. And ask everyone to leave hints: in families people tend to assume they know what everyone likes.
One limit, one draw, the whole family
Create the family exchange, add everyone and Cuchumbo runs the draw. Nobody sees who got whom. It's free and nobody needs an account.
