In a gift exchange everyone does two things: give one gift and receive another. Neither requires you to be there on gift day. You only need to sort out how your gift gets delivered and when you'll receive yours.
How to take part without being there
Tell the organizer as soon as you know
Tell the organizer as soon as you know you can't come. Something like “I can't make Friday's dinner, but my gift will be there” is enough. It lets them plan gift day knowing you'll be missing.
Get your gift there another way
Ship it, drop it off at the organizer's the day before, or hand it to someone who's going. Label it with the recipient's name so it doesn't get mixed up with the others.
Get yours later
Ask someone to keep your gift until you're back. If you want to open it with the person who gave it, set up a short video call another day. Or just pick it up and open it on your own.
Mark your delivery in Cuchumbo
Once your gift reaches its recipient, open your personal page and mark it as delivered. The organizer sees that your part is done, without learning who you gave to.
If you can't take part this year
If you can't take part at all this year, say so as soon as you can. Before the draw you can leave yourself from your page, and the organizer gets notified.
After the draw you can still leave from there: whoever was giving to you gets your person instead, so nobody ends up without a gift.
Stay in the loop, even from far away
On your personal page you can see who you drew, write your hints and mark your gift as delivered. It works from any phone with no account, whether or not you're there on gift day.
