Eight days before the party, the organizer realizes the date clashes with a family event that can't move. They draft the message three times and send none of them, hoping the problem will solve itself.
By the time they write it, half the group has already bought a gift. Canceling an exchange has two parts: telling people and deleting the data.
The first is what the group cares about, and it goes better done early with a clear explanation. The second takes one click in Cuchumbo.
Canceling, step by step
Sort out gifts already bought
If someone already bought a gift, suggest exchanging it at another get-together, like a dinner or New Year's, or tell them plainly they can keep it or give it to someone else.
What to avoid
Don't cancel by going quiet or by telling people one at a time: the group ends up half-informed. Give the real reason; if you blame the budget when the problem is the dates, someone will suggest lowering the limit and you'll have to explain it all again.
How to delete the exchange in Cuchumbo
On your organizer page, the Delete option removes the exchange with its participants, hints and results. It can't be undone and it doesn't notify the group on its own, so send the message yourself.
